Life at the Middle School - Day 8

During the first quarter, I taught an elective based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's cooking. A few of the students knew Laura's story while the others enjoyed exploring the food of the pioneer days. We made Vinegar Pie (mixed reviews on this one!), Johnny Cakes, Almanzo's favorite Apples-n-Onions (the bacon was a huge hit!), Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie (both were huge hits!), porridge, cambric tea (the more sugar the better), heart-shaped cookies, molasses on "ice" candy (we did not have snow), and several more fun cooking experiments! Here are a few photos of our cooking adventures!
