Yesterday, we had our first ever International Middle School chapel!! At least as far as I know! We began our week with a spirit week where each day has a theme and students along with teachers can dress up as part of the theme. Wednesday was International Day where students were encouraged to wear something that represented their heart country or a country that they could identify with; perhaps somewhere they have lived. I had a student carrying a Bulgarian flag around with him as his family lived in Bulgaria for a few years. Another student wore pants from Thailand as her family lived in Thailand last year. Another student wore pigtails and a checkered shirt to represent Wisconsin. :)
For lunch, several parents made delicious dishes from different countries our students and families have lived in; Jordan, France, Korea, Slovenia, Thailand, German and many more! Everything looked, smelled and tasted delicious!
We end every Wednesday with a chapel service that usually begins with a fun game (to get wiggles out), then we go into a few worship songs and teaching. Yesterday was a special chapel to represent how God moves throughout the nations with the gospel through his servants, us. After a fun game, we had a roll call of nations. Nations that our students have lived in were called out and our students could yell and chear for their flag! After our roll call, our high school chaplain, Kristy, shared from Acts 17:24-27. God designed the nations in their multi-facetedness. I love how God is glorified through the different nations and languages and peoples! After she shared, our middle school chaplain, Katrina, introduced our next activity. Some parents (high school and middle school parents) had stations set up around the auditorium that shared about a particular country and prayer requests for the people who live in that country and missionaries who are serving there. These parents who shared lived in these countries with their families (most who are or were our middle school students). After sharing, students prayed over these countries.
After a time of moving around the different stations and praying, we came back to the middle of the auditorium to worship. We were led by the high school worship band and several students came up to sing in different languages. We worshipped in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Korean, German, Mandarin and many more! It was so moving to hear our Lord being worshipped in several different languages! Some of our middle school students also had opportunities to share a verse from a country where they used to live. We heard a verse in Arabic, German, Turkish, and Malayalam (India).
Below are some photos that I took and a short video of some of the worship. Enjoy!
