Jumping in...

Since I have arrived, much has been happening! From registering and getting mandatory insurance to buying groceries and meeting my students. Overwhelming would be a good word for starting life in a new country! The experiences have been rich already and I know more exciting adventures await!
God has been overseeing every piece of this transition. A wonderful couple who arrive every year in the fall are able to fill in spots where needed. Mr. Ansley was teaching the middle school math classes until I arrived and doing an amazing job! His expertise along with other math teachers here at BFA have given much needed advice and encouragement! I expect this year, I will be striving just to stay ahead of my students:)

Life in Germany continues to be an adventure! I am taking a class in German along with independent study using Rosetta Stone. We will see how much I can soak in! I had an interesting and rather humorous moment yesterday with a local. I ran up to the Sausenberg ruin and climbed the tower. At the entrance to the tower, there is a sign on the staircase, of course in German. I "read" it but had no idea what it said. So, shrugging my shoulders, I went up. After coming back down, another runner approached and asked me something in German. He switched to English, probably after seeing the confused look on my face! He asked if I had noticed any hornets in the stairwell?! Oh! That is what that sign is for!! Ha! Glad I did not find out the meaning the hard way!

The picture I have posted is from yesterday. My sponsors have taken such good care of me, helping me to situate myself here in Germany. They have that sweet Texas spirit! We went shopping in a nearby town of Fischingen where there is a Hornbach's (like Home-Depot or Lowe's) and Funfschilling (a little like IKEA without the cattle drive:). We found a Farmer's Market with fresh strawberries and SPAGHETTI SQUASH! Kind of excited about the spaghetti squash:) Farmer's Markets in general bring much excitement!

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support in this new venture! I am excited for how God will be working through me, you and these students! Until next time....
