Cycling in the Black Forest is fun and full of curious adventure. I continually ask myself as I set off on every ride, "How will I find my way back to Kandern and how long will it take?" This photo is from Thursday afternoon as I rode up past Badenweiler, a town about 10 kilometers from Kandern. A few weeks ago, I went for a ride and when I came to Mullheim, anther town about 10 kilometers downhill from Kandern. I saw a sign for Freiburg, about 35 kilometers away and thought sure! A local cyclist passed me and asked me in German where I was headed to which I replied "to Freiburg!" He convinced me in German (of which I understood some) to follow him the back way to Freiburg. Our conversation en route consisted of my simple German phrases or short one to two word replies to his questions:) He reminded me of some cycling friends in Colorado who are also from Germany but speak both English and German! I am positive they would have gotten a kick out of my experience! As we approached Freiburg, he asked if I could find my way back and I said, "ja". Hah! Maybe! We curved around so many villages, I was not sure which way was up! He directed me to an old Cathedral in Freiburg which I was able to find on my own! I checked directions with locals as I headed back to Kandern and found my way along with a pitstop at an Erdbeeren stand to eat strawberries and attempt to speak more German:) I made it back to Kandern and felt like I gained some language experience along with navigation!

Here is the church I found in Badenweiler yesterday! I do not know the history but am very interested!
Castle in Badenwieler! I plan to hike and get a closer view soon!
Here is where I turned around to head back to Kandern. Of course, I had to make a stop for Kirschen on my way home:)
