Welcome to Spiritual Emphasis Week! This week was amazing as we worshiped God together with the middle school and high school! Our small groups and Chrysalis program also started this week. Teachers, staff, and adults in our BFA community volunteer to lead small groups within our high school from Freshmen to Juniors on Tuesday nights. The Chrysalis program is for our middle school students which also meets on Tuesday nights and our Senior students volunteer to lead small groups within the Chrysalis program. Seniors are also involved with their small groups that meet on a different night since Tuesday's are full. During our Chyrsalis time, students worship, hear teaching, share wondermeants and thoughts within their small group, and also spend time getting to know each other with games. High School small groups look a little different as leaders and students decide what they would like to study and plan out their time together. I began co-leading a small group of Junior girls last year who are Seniors now! We have discussed many different topics relating to the Holy Spirit and his role in our lives, how our lives should look when we are experiencing crazy love for our Savior and how to keep each other accountable in our Christian walk. Of course we have also talked about boys, homework, movies, music, and colleges as well!
Some of the students you will see below have been in my math classes and are still amazing students with unique personalities!
Our speaker, Richard Hardee is the head of the Calvary Baptist Church and Day School located in Winston-Salem, NC. He shared his testimony which was very powerful and highlighted how Christ has worked in the lives of his family members including himself! He also shared stories of students from CBDS and a few members of the Worship Team shared stories of their walk with God from a adolescent age. God continues to work in the lives of our students! Our speaker invited our students to share prayer requests so they could pray for us this week. Most of our students wrote our a prayer request and also had opportunities to spend time with the speaker and the worship team. They shared their hearts with us and we are so grateful!
On Wednesday, it is now a tradition at BFA to reach out into our community and serve! Below, you will see my small group as we spent time in the forest cleaning up picnic areas with shoveling, weeding, raking, picking up trash, and enjoying our time together. The highlight was helping to clean up an old bridge built by the Romans! We were digging, shoveling and sweeping off the moss so construction crews can re-enforce the bridge in the spring.
