Math 8 Tradition: Stained Glass Windows!

My first year at BFA, I wanted to find some creative ideas for my students to explore math through art. From some online researching, I found an activity where students create stained glass windows on plexi-glass. First, they draw out their designs including 20 different shapes, lines, and angles (obtuse angles, scalene triangle, transversal lines, corresponding lines, right angles, adjacent angles, vertical angles, some polygons and more). When they have completed their rough draft, they begin their final copy which will be used under the plexi-glass window as they draw their black outline with acrylic paint or a permanent marker. When that dries, they can fill in their designs with color. The last step is for the students to assess a peer's window to make sure every shape, line, and angle listed in their rubric is in their design. I have included pictures from the day we were coloring in our windows. I was amazed at the care and creativity in my students! Enjoy the online art show!
