My 6th grade students are full of energy and passion for the world around them! During our practice time, students work in groups and with partners. As they work through problems together, they learn from each other. I love to listen in as they coach each other through problems! My higher-level students help those who struggle often and they are both reaping benefits! Some of my students are learning how to ask questions, guide and critique their peers thinking. Others are learning how to ask for help, persevere, and explain their thinking to firm their own understanding. Below, I have posted a few pictures from some of our 6th grade students helping each other!
Of course, no middle school classroom is complete without "The Dab!" If you have no idea what I am talking about, I was clueless at first too! The dab started from American music (hip-hop, I think) and has moved to athletes doing this move after they score. To do the move, you place your head in one of your elbows like you are covering a sneeze and place your other hand behind you. Cool, huh?! Now, kids and teens are doing this 'cool move' with their friends! I honestly don't get it....but here is a picture of some of my students doing the dab. They had to do it backwards too!
