Heart Dissection in Science Class!

Science, so far, has been exciting, challenging and enjoyable! Last week, we entered our third unit on Biology with the circulatory system. I was "privileged" to dissect a sheep's heart while my students watched. Eric Kooiman, math teacher and parent to a couple of my students, took some fun pictures of our experience.

Science was never one of my strengths, especially biology! Not a fan of blood and guts! I was actually looking forward to this activity and enjoyed sharing the experience with my students. I had a few that ran around the corner and hid from the gory-ness. Everyone else fully enjoyed and claimed, "this was the best science class ever!"

I used a document camera that allowed students to see on our Apple TV what was going on as we looked at the heart and opened it up.

According to my students, the best part was sticking their fingers in the arteries, touching and squeezing the tissues! Not sure how I can top this lesson! They had a blast!
