Welcome to our middle school art show! I have posted some highlights that students have submitted. Our art show was on the 5th floor spread out in three areas which means we had several submissions! I required students to submit at least 3 pieces and some submitted more. It took some time (lots of time) to type out their names, grade, title and descriptions but was so worth it!! You might get a kick out of reading the titles and descriptions if you can see them, we did! Scroll through and enjoy!
The above two were submitted by 5th and 6th graders. This was a descriptive self-portrait and students finished by writing interests and adjectives that describe who they are as individuals.
Check out our pottery!! The 5th graders did some pottery for their ELW week (Experiential Learning Week) in May.
I had my 7th and 8th graders work on stick horses by collecting sticks and using hot glue to paste them together. We looked at Deborah Butterfield's horses to give us inspiration. They had a lot of fun with this and every horse was a little different. A few were rather abstract as well. :)
The 7th and 8th graders also completed some bean mosaics. Two of my students chose to create a mosaic of their "home" countries of Africa and the Middle East which turned out spectacular!
The 5th and 6th graders also created Zentangles with their hands and giraffes.
Some more stick horses...
To begin our 2nd semester of hands-on sculptures and ceramics, I had the students create something out of Paper Mache. They created a golden snitch from Harry Potter, dragons, dragon eggs, a pineapple, pigs with glasses and earrings, and hot air balloons. I love watching their creativity and personalities weave into their projects!
The 5th and 6th graders created amusement park rides for their last project of the year which many said was their favorite! I put out bins of wood, metal, ribbon, string, plastic pieces, hot glue, and much more for them to use in their creations! They could work alone or with a group of two or three. I had two boys who created a marshmallow park with of course, several marshmallows! Another couple of girls created "The Flusher" which sent their riders down a toilet! As seen above, A created a underground railroad ride as her class was studying the Civil War. Are they not amazing kids!?
The 5th and 6th graders also created some abstract unrealistic trees with sharpie and watercolor halos around them. One student called them Dr. Seuss trees.
Here is a bean mosaic of the Middle East that I referred to above. Below, you will see a turtle made out of beans by another 8th grader.
Some other 5th and 6th grade projects included creating something with paper shapes in a collage. This students created a penguin. They also drew and painted farm animals and animal eyes which were beautiful! These kids amaze me with their skills and passion!
Here are the Paper Mache pigs with glasses and earings created by two 8th grade girls.
Hope you enjoyed our art show!
