Our first five units in Science have students exploring biology; photosynthesis, human digestive system, circulatory system, respiratory system and the reproductive system. To bookend our learning and give students to show their understanding in a creative way, I found and altered a rubric for a biology project. Students had a choice between creating a children's storybook or a 3-D model and could choose one of the first four units. They were given a rubric with clear instructions of the vocabulary words to be used depending on their topic and directions based on the project they chose. I had two students choose the 3-D model and the rest chose the children's storybook. They had four class days to work on their project and were also expected to work at home. On our last day of school before Christmas break, they each got a minute or two to present and share a little about what they created, what they learned and how they would do it differently if they were to start over.
I loved what they came up with! My students are so talented and creative! I want to share with you a sneak peak into what they created. For the storybooks, I will share a photo of the cover of their book and a photo of one page in their book. You are welcome to give comments if you see something that looks fun and/or interesting!
