Sometimes I struggle with motivation. I have plans in my head to get up early, get out for a ride in the cool of the day (cause if I ride in the heat, I will be sorry!), and feel great when I get home!
This morning, I wanted to get up by 5:30 and be out of the door by 7 for a 3ish hour ride. Instead, I got up by 6:40 and was out of the door by 9. I still got out before it got really hot and still made the ride that I had planned. Initially, I wanted more sleep but did make myself get up by 6:40! As I was riding my bike towards Masonville and over the dams west of Fort Collins, I was so thankful that I was out and on my bike enjoying the beauty around me!
I am thinking back to a conservation with a new friend who is planning her birthday party and her theme is from Psalm 34! Vs. 8, "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!"
This is such a great verse to reflect on as I enter into a sabbatical rest. How has the Lord been good to me in my life? Overall? In the past few years? In spite of the hard things? At one time, I was making lists of what I was thankful for and even posting them on my wall in my apartment. This would be so good to begin again. Having a heart of gratitide helped me see how good God is to me and what He has done for me. Having a thankful heart can also free a person from fear and anxiety, instead reminding them of the goodness of God. Which then, in effect, gives room to get out and enjoy God's creation on a bike! One way to "taste and see the goodness of the Lord"!
How do you taste and see that the Lord is good?
The photo above is from this morning. This is the first dam as I turned to go North. As you can see in the distance, there is a steep uphill climb! I love this climb! It is on the shorter side, but intense!
